Graduate studies there led me on a process of acculturation into communities closer to nature, simpler and more intimate. Over several years of continuous residence in the region, I gained a rich understanding of major themes and photographed them from the "inside." The best experiences today continue to be my collaborations with fellow biologists and lingering with lowland Quichua friends on invitations to join their community work parties or "mingas." My editorial photography focuses on place-based understandings of wilderness environments. I'm very attracted to texture and focused on the story-telling design of my images. My educational research articulates the work of the visual narrative. I'm always grateful to the indigenous federations and community-based conservation groups who facilitate my work & enjoy the "intercambio," or exchange, of helping them use visual media in their own campaigns. I'm motivated by intense curiosity and a deep appreciation for nature. As a cancer survivor, photography brought me even closer in this relationship. I work hard to create aesthetically pleasing images that interpret meaningful concepts. Please click on the "Image Info" tab below each portfolio image to learn the story behind the scene! I hope these images remind viewers of how much nature sustains us and perhaps arouse some conservation action. I encourage you to visit the upper Amazon basin and explore your local reserves. Consider joining my Summer 2012 tour to Amazonian Ecuador. At Raw Rainforest Immersion Photography Tours, we offer a refreshingly broad & personal experience in contrast to conventional mega-fauna photo tours. |
